Recruiting Volunteers and Managing Member Expectations

 Paul K. Mengert, President and CEO of Association Management Group, will share his insight, gathered from more than 30 years in the community association management industry. He will address the challenges of bringing on board effective, productive volunteers and managing homeowner expectations.  Mengert is a Harvard Business School alumni, a senior faculty member of the Community Associations Institute, a regular speaker at industry conventions, education seminars and business and law school classes.

Communication Strategies to Achieve Excellent Executive Board Results

Nationally recognized leadership consultant Dr. Lori Baker-Schena, MBA, EdD, will provide team-oriented communications tools to help Executive Association Boards hold productive meetings, accomplish goals and make Board service a positive experience. Dr. Baker-Schena will explain what makes some boards more successful than others, bringing an extensive background in the community association management industry to AMG’s Board members.

Legal Nightmares: What- Not to Do in Your Community (NC)

Hear why you don’t want your HOA to be in court, and how to prevent it. In North Carolina, this session will be led by Jim Slaughter, who recently served as the national President of the College of Community Association Lawyers. He has 30 years of experience representing community associations, and is one of the most recognized parliamentarians in the United States.


Legal Nightmares: What- Not to Do in Your Community (SC)

Hear why you don’t want your HOA to be in court, and how to prevent it. In South Carolina, this session will be held by Joel M. Deason, who is a member of the SC Bar. He is son of an engineer and general contractor, Joel grew up working in construction and related businesses. Since becoming an attorney, he has prosecuted Insurance Fraud as an Assistant Attorney General and worked on a wide range of issues before the General Assembly while serving as a Research Director in the SC Senate.  He now concentrates his practice on litigation and public policy related to construction and community association law.
